Lysine hydroxylase hydroxylates lysine in the telopeptide region of collagen, making collagen molecules difficult to degrade and causing them to accumulate. The accumulation of collagen leads to hardening and shrinkage of the surrounding hair follicles, resulting in fibrosis and slowing hair follicle growth.
