Diaminopyrimidine oxide helps soften collagen and can be used in hair care products to treat hair loss caused by premature hair root loss. It inhibits lysine hydroxylase activity and prevents fibrosis. Lysine hydroxylase hydroxylates lysine in the telopeptide region of collagen, making collagen molecules difficult to degrade and causing them to accumulate. The accumulation of collagen leads to hardening and shrinkage of the surrounding hair follicles, resulting in fibrosis and slowing hair follicle growth. It also inhibits 5α-reductase activity, thereby reducing the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone.
