What is Podophyllum resin？

Podophyllum resin (Podophyllum hexandrum) is a plant. The entire plant is poisonous except for the ripe fruit. The plant resin (podophyllin) is used on the skin. The podophyllum resin comes from the plant rhizome (root). It contains antioxidants and also toxic chemicals.

What is podophyllum used for?
Podophyllum resin uses to remove benign (not cancer) growths, such as certain kinds of warts. It works by destroying the tissue of the growth. A few hours after podophyllum is applied to a wart, the wart becomes blanched (loses all color). In 24 to 48 hours, the medicine causes death of the tissue.

Podophyllin is a resin extracted from the roots of Podophyllum peltatum (American mandrake) and Podophyllum emodi, which contains numerous compounds, amongst which is podophyllin (as well as the drug [podophyllotoxin]). Podophyllin is the principal active component.

Is podophyllum resin toxic?
Podophyllin resin for humans has been estimated to be 0.3 g to 0.6 g, or as little as one-half teaspoon of 25% podophyllin resin in benzoin tincture. There is a case report of podophyllin toxicity in a child aged 2 years in western literature.

Can I use podophyllin every day?
Apply to warts twice daily for 3 consecutive days. If required, this treatment can be repeated every week, for a maximum of 5 successive weeks, until the wart is gone.

Is podophyllin resin better than toxin?
